Monica Hershman (she/her) is a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor who values building meaningful and collaborative relationships with each of her clients to ensure their safety and comfort in the therapeutic setting. Monica enjoys working with clients of all ages, but has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and their families. Monica’s clinical style is warm, collaborative, engaging, empathic, and nonjudgmental. She works with clients and their families to develop tailored treatment plans in order to effectively achieve their goals.
Psychodynamic and Evidence-Based Interventions like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) are utilized to guide treatment. Monica has worked at Northwestern Medicine in the Neuropsychology Department, therapeutic day schools, and inpatient psychiatric settings. Monica has experience treating anxiety disorders, mood disorders, adjustment disorders, ADHD, stress, and trauma.
Monica understands the importance of viewing concerns through a systemic lens, and how power, privilege, and oppression often contribute to presenting concerns. Monica welcomes clients of all ethnic and racial backgrounds, genders, and sexual orientations and continues to educate herself on cultural humility and sensitivity.
Monica received her Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Child and Adolescent Track, from Northwestern University. Prior to her graduate studies, she earned a Bachelors of the Arts in Sociology from Fordham University.
