Jordan Backstrom, Psy.D.

Dr. Jordan Backstrom is a Licensed Psychologist in Michigan and Massachusetts. Jordan received his Doctorate and Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from William James College. He received his Master of Divinity from Harvard University and undergraduate degrees in psychology and philosophy from the University of Georgia.

An LBGTQ+ affirming therapist with a background in existential therapy, Jordan specializes in depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, and relationship counseling. Jordan also has a number of special interests including working with people engaged in educational pursuits, as well as those who live with chronic pain and headache. He has a passion for helping people who feel that they have lost touch with who they really are and want to be.

Jordan’s approach to therapy is relational and integrative. He employs many behavioral health interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy, clinical hypnosis, and mindfulness, and stress reduction. However, he also views each of these skills as tools best utilized in a broader person-centered context of physiological health and psychological wholeness.

Jordan completed internships at Tufts Craniofacial Pain Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Joseph Smith Community Health Center. He completed his post-doctoral fellowship at Boston PainCare. He has taught classes and lectured extensively on topics related to college mental health, the experience of academic burnout, as well as opiate risk assessment, and behavioral headache management.
